Finding the Right Diet Plan for Your Goals is Key to Success

Choose The Right Diet Plan
Many of us have experience with several or even many diet plans. It is common and indeed beneficial to explore many diet plans, and their is no shortage of diet plans to test. Yet even with numerous options somehow lasting success remains elusive.
At times all of the many different diet plans and accompanying philosophies can be intimidating. Every other day it seems as if someone in the media is touting a miracle weight loss drug or diet revolution while traditional weight diet advice always seems prevalent. Unfortunately all the information available can be confusing and often contradictory. The first step towards maintaining a successful diet plan is to understand the options available.
There are hundreds of diet plans available and most can be broken up into six groups; Program Diets, Food Diets, Nutritional Diets, Medical Diets, Goal Diets, and Target Diets.
Program Diets
Program Diets refers to the highly specified and planned nutrition regimens developed by nutritionists or for commercial purposes. The diets, including the Atkins and South Beach diets, set limits on the quantities and/or types of food eaten. These programs are often accompanied with extensive support and structure including books, videos, community forums, and online tools.
Food Diets
The term food diets may seem redundant but it refers to diets that are focused on particular foods. Perhaps the most popular example of such is the Grapefruit Diet which does not require exclusively grapefruits but does place an emphasis on the fruit. Food Diets can promote a single food to different degrees with some allowing for significant variation and others requiring little more than the core food.
Nutritional Diets
Diets that are focused on consuming specific nutritional content such as low carb or high protein fall under the Nutritional Diets category. Nutritional Diets are often used to promote specific health and fitness goals or to control and treat illness. For example individuals looking to weight train while dieting may try a High Protein diet to ensure their body is prepared foe strength training, choosing foods primarily for their nutritional content.
Medical Diets
While all good diets should promote health these types of diets are designed specifically to help people prevent or treat medical conditions. There are many health condition for which a specific diet and nutrition plan can provide considerable benefit. Conditions such as diabetes are greatly affected by diet. Healthy eating can make the condition more manageable while a poor diet can enhance symptoms.
Goal Diets
Lose weight, improve heart function, detoxify, and burn fat are all goals people have in mind when beginning a diet plan. Some people are so focused on their goals that their exercise plans are designed around that singular purpose and these are referred to as Goal Diets. It is important to understand what you hope to achieve on your diet so that you can eat the right foods. The dieter who hopes to burn fat and build muscle is going to eat different foods then someone who is focused on improving their cardiovascular system.
Target Diets
Diets that set a hard limit or set a rigid target such as the 1200 Calorie Diet or 4 Day Diet. These types of diets are often used for short term periods for very specific goals. While constantly beginning and ending diet plans constantly may not be the healthiest approach some individuals do respond positively to the the rigid structure they provide.
