All diets prescribe what type and often how much food to eat.  Some of these diets are based on individual foods themselves.  Perhaps the most popular of these is the Grapefruit Diet.  These diets do not suggest eating nothing but one particular food but often use that food as a foundation and then add on other foods as needed.

Food diets come in all shapes and sizes and can include programs with different degrees of rigidity.  Some diets may require almost exclusively one type of food while other merely use one type of food as a foundation.  Whenever engaging in a Food Diet is is important to ensure you are receiving all the vitamins and nutrients of a balanced diet.

Types of Food Diets

There are seemingly limitless foods available the world over and so there are limitless types of diets that can be designed around those foods.  Certain foods however seem to often be desired by health conscious eaters all over.  The Grapefruit Diet often comes to mind for many people as a fruit based plan to weight loss.  Some people try a liquid diet or juice diet, these diets must be monitored closely to ensure all need food types are being consumed.  The Green Tea Diet has gained in popularity over recent years. Vegetarian diets, fruit diets, and raw food diets have all been staples of the health food movement and many people use them successfully for weight loss and overall health improvement.

Benefits

Many dieters have been able to base nutrition plans around singular foods or food groups.  Often times successful dieters cite several reasons for losing and maintaining weight:

  • Eat Foods You Love- if you enjoy fresh fruits then by all means design a meal plan around them, don’t fight your natural cravings, use them
  • Simplicity- if complex diet plans intimidate simplify your meals by focusing on one or two staple items
  • Affordability- learning to eat healthy with simple foods means you do not have to pay for fancy books or pre-made meals

Possible Concerns

There are potential concerns when developing a nutrition plan based on only a handful of food items including:

  • Burn out- eating the same food repetitively can wear on some people, over time making it difficult for them to maintain
  • Unbalanced Diet- foods do not contain all the body needs to function properly, by eating limited foods you can potentially deny your body needed nutrients
