At the base of the food pyramid is the bread group consisting of pasta, rice, cereal, and more. As the foundation of the pyramid experts recommend that the bread group comprise the largest percentage of your daily diet. The bread group is high in carbohydrates which provide the fuel your body needs for daily function.
When choosing what types of foods in the bread group to eat it is important to eat whole grain rather than refined grain. Whole grain breads and whole grain pastas contain more of the healthy nutrients, vitamins, and fiber your body needs.
Recently low carb or even no carb diets have become popular. While specific diet plans may make the recommendation meal plans based on a balanced diet recommend carbohydrates every day.
